About the conference
The European Commission (EC), Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development (DG AGRI), and the European Investment Bank (EIB) organised the '10th annual EU conference on EAFRD financial instruments', which took place on Thursday, 28 November 2024 in Madrid, Spain.
A networking dinner took place on the evening prior the conference, on Wednesday, 27 November 2024.
The conference included interventions from the Deputy Director-General of the Directorate-General for Agriculture and Rural Development, Mihail Dumitru, the Vice-President of the European Investment Bank, Gelsomina Vigliotti, the Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries of Portugal, José Manuel Fernandes, and the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food of Spain, Ernesto Abati García-Manso.
The conference also featured speakers from the main sector stakeholder groups, who presented their views on key topics for the future of agriculture, such as financing the green transition, managing growing climate risks, and ensuring the long-term resilience of the agriculture and agri-food sectors.
Speakers included:
- Representatives from EU Member States who presented examples of EAFRD financial instruments under the new CAP Strategic Plans, sharing their experiences, recommendations and lessons learned.
- COPA-COGECA and CEJA, who presented the position of EU farmers on their access to finance needs and the importance of the CAP support.
- EIB Group experts, who illustrated lending and advisory services to support the green and digital transition of the sector.
- Representatives from major EU banks active in agriculture and other important stakeholders.
